What Is an IP Rating?
IP (Ingress Protection) ratings tell you how well a fixture is protected against dust and water. The first digit is dust protection (0-6), the second is water protection (0-9K).
Common LED Lighting IP Ratings
IP54 — Protected against limited dust and water splashing. Good for covered indoor areas.
IP65 — Dust-tight and protected against water jets. The standard for most outdoor fixtures — wall packs, area lights, floodlights.
IP66 — Dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets. Great for sport lights and exposed locations.
IP69K — The highest rating. Protected against high-pressure, high-temperature wash-down. Required for food processing (NSF) and industrial environments.
Choosing by IP Rating
Many of our UFO High Bays and NSF-rated lights are built to IP69K for wash-down environments. Sport lights and vapor-tight fixtures are commonly IP66. Wall packs, area lights, canopies, and security lights are typically IP65. Commercial downlights are commonly IP54 for covered indoor use. Check the individual product page for the exact IP rating of any fixture before installing it outdoors or in a wash-down environment.
